HOUSTON - Houston's Deidre Outon tossed a one-hitter in a 17-0 win over the Columbia softball team. The Cougars put up a seven spot in the first inning and never looked back.

The first six Cougar (7-1) batters reached base giving them a two-run lead before Kendra Cullum delivered the big blow, a grand slam to make it 6-0. Two batters later, Kris Deliva blasted a two-run shot and it was 8-0 at the blink of an eye.

Houston put one run on the board in both the second and third innings to make it a 10-run game. The Cougars put the game away in the fourth, capitalizing on a trio of Lion errors and crossing the plate seven more times.

Kayla Maloney picked up the decision (0-1). Kayla Shimoda led the game off with the lone base hit before Outon retired the next 15 batters.

Columbia has two more games on the slate on Saturday, Feb. 22 when they take on Nicholls State at 12:30 p.m. and Houston at 5:30 p.m. EST.
