North Dakota State Rallies Late to Top Softball, 6-1
HOUSTON - North Dakota State scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a tie-game and come away with a 6-1 win over the Columbia softball team on Sunday. The Lions (0-5) return to tournament play next weekend with five games at the Hampton Invitational.
The Bison (9-5) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Cheyenne Garcia snuck a solo shot down the leftfield line in the bottom of the first inning. Liz Caggiano provided the equalizer in the top of the third with her first homer of the season to even things up.
After stranding baserunners in the fourth and fifth, NDSU broke through in the sixth. Brooke Darling retired the first two batters in her third inning of relief, but the next six batters reached and the Bison wrapped up a 5-0 weekend at the Houston Hilton Plaza Inn Invitational.
Darling drops to 0-3 after allowing five runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings. Emily Kenyon started and pitched the first three innings, surrendering just the one home run.
