Shimoda, Rodia Lock Up Ivy League Weekly Honors
Shimoda and Rodia have been crucial catalysts in the Lions’ winning eight of their nine games. In nine games last week, Shimoda batted .355, slugged .645 and reached base .444. She also drove in 11 runs, walked four times, stole three bases and hit a pair of home runs and doubles. Against Iona on Saturday, Shimoda launched a walk-off grand slam to lift the Lions to a 12-9 victory. She led Columbia to a 7-0 win over the Gaels in the nightcap with a 3-for-4 performance, a homer and three RBI.
Rodia, a newcomer to the Lions this season, is having an early impact on the team. The Stormville, N.Y., native posted a .435 batting average, .500 OBP and slugged at an .826 clip. Of her 10 hits, three were doubles and two were home runs, as she drove in 11 RBI, scored 14 runs and swiped two bags.
Columbia, in the midst of a 10-game homestand, will take on Brown in the Ivy League opener this Friday at the Columbia softball stadium. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
