PRINCETON, N.J. – The Columbia softball team put six players on All-Ivy League teams, as announced by the conference this afternoon. Junior Emily Caruthers was named to the first team, while first-year Emily Kenyon, sophomore Alix Cook and first-year Alyssa Swearingen earned a spot on the second team. Junior Emily Snodgrass and sophomore Liz Caggiano each garnered honorable mention status, respectively.

The total is the second highest in program history and the most since seven Lions took home honors following the 2006 season.

Caruthers was a spark-plug at the top of the lineup throughout the season, starting all 48 games and hitting .344 with 29 runs scored to rank among the Ivy League leaders. She broke Columbia’s single-season and career stolen base mark this season, swiping 17 bags to rank third in the conference and now has 31 in three seasons. Caruthers also played an error-free centerfield and posted three outfield assists.

Kenyon emerged as the team’s ace, picking up 10 wins with a 2.70 ERA and 146 strikeouts in 140 innings of work. Her strikeout total set a new school record for first-years and was the third highest single-season total in program history.

Cook posted the second highest single-season batting average in the school’s history, recording a .366 clip with 20 RBI and 19 runs scored. She reached base safely in 44 of 48 games played and is the nation’s sixth toughest batter to strike out after fanning just five times in 160 at-bats.

Swearingen patrolled left field in 45 games for the Lions, posting a .280 average with two homers and 16 RBI in a solid rookie campaign. She also came around to score 24 times and was second on the team with 11 stolen bases.

This is the second consecutive year that Caggiano has picked up an honorable mention nod. The sophomore catcher saw action in 39 games, hitting .270 with a pair of dingers and 13 RBI. Her presence behind the plate helped Columbia post a team ERA of 2.76 to lead the Ivy League.

Snodgrass tied a career-high by hitting .308 and was the club’s top run-producer. She led Columbia with six home runs, 29 RBI and added 11 doubles. The designated player was named Ivy League Player of the Week on March 19 after batting .412 with five extra-base hits to help the Lions post a 5-1 record at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
