Softball Renews Rivalry With Princeton Friday and Saturday
NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team renews its rivalry with Ivy League foe Princeton this weekend with four games at Columbia Softball Field.
Due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, the series was changed to begin on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m. Saturday’s twinbill will begin at 12:30 p.m. Both games will feature free live statistics and a free live blog on GoColumbiaLions.com.
The Lions (10-27, 4-8 Ivy League) are coming off a par of Wednesday losses at Fairleigh Dickinson. Liz Caggiano belted two home runs and Columbia built early leads in both games, but the Knights used a pair of mid-game rallies to take control and sweep the doubleheader.
The Tigers (12-25, 6-6 Ivy League) also suffered two losses on Wednesday, falling to Lehigh, 3-1 and 2-0. In the first game, the Tigers committed a throwing error and a fielding error in the fourth inning and Lehigh scored three unearned runs to take command of the game. In the second game, Lehigh’s Rebecca Bliss limited the Tigers to just two hits.
Princeton leads the all-time series between the teams 23-9. However, Columbia dominated last season’s series, taking three of four games at Princeton. Jennifer Bergeron hit .462 against the Tigers in 2011, going 6-of-13 with four RBI, three runs and three stolen bases.
Next week, the Lions will host a Wednesday home doubleheader against Lehigh starting at 3 p.m.
