PRINCETON - Sophomore utility player Kayla Shimoda was named Ivy League Player of the Week on Tuesday, March 12, after going a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate in a doubleheader at Rider on Sunday.
Shimoda recorded a hit in each of her three appearances at the plate in game one and nearly single-handedly produced the first run of the contest. She led off the second inning with a base-hit, moved to second after forcing an errant pickoff throw to first base, advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch.
In game two, Shimoda went 2-for-2 and drove in two of the Lions' three runs.
The Aiea, Hawai'i native, is the first Columbia player to be named conference Player of the Week since Maggie Johnson '11CC earned the distinction on Apr. 6, 2010.
