Jowers Cards Low Round of the Day, Propels Men's Golf to Second at Ivy League Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Columbia sophomore Brandon Jowers carded the low round of the day as the only golfer to post a sub-par round, 69, to propel the Lions into second place on day two of the Ivy League Championship.
After a first round third-place showing at the par-70, 6,908-yard Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mill, Md., Columbia finished round two with a 293 score, just two strokes behind first place Yale (291). The strong outing gave the Lions a two-day score of 594 to tie with Penn, while remaining in striking distance of the Bulldogs (592).
Jowers skyrocketed from 22nd place to a tie for fifth after a solid performance in round two. After bogeying hole two, Jowers bounced back with a birdie on hole five, to go with seven pars to finish the front nine with a 35. He then dominated the back nine with all pars and one birdie on hole 13 to remain two-under par, 69, the lowest score of the day.
First-year Harrison Shih also had a strong performance, getting off to a great start in round two with a birdie on the first hole. Shih was just one-over part through the front nine and added another birdie on hole 13 before double-bogeying the final hole to finish just three over par 35-37—73, sitting in a tie for 10th.
Michael Yu also closed out the first two rounds in a tie for 10th place after carding a 38-37—75 on Saturday. Ford Fischer closed out the second day of action with six over par at 39-37—76 to sit in a tie at 14th place. Andrew Kim rounded out day two for Columbia by also carding a 39-37—76, moving into 28th overall.
The Lions are back in action tomorrow for the final day of the tournament set to begin at 8 a.m. Columbia's first golfer, Kim, will tee off at 8:45 a.m. and his teammates will follow in nine-minute intervals.
