PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Brendan Doyle and junior Michael Yiu each shot a 1-under 70 and the Columbia men’s golf team posted an outstanding even-par 284 in Sunday’s final round as the Lions closed an impressive weekend at the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club with a third-place team finish.

Columbia finished the 54-hole event on the par 71, 6,390-yard course with a 288-288-284—860 (+8), just two strokes back of first-place Yale (6-over 858). Columbia and second-place finisher Georgetown each shot even-par 284 in the final round, only to be bested by Yale’s 1-under 283. Dartmouth’s Peter Williamson won the individual title with a 71-70-67—208 (-5).

Doyle was Columbia’s top finisher, tying for fourth place with 68-73-70—211 (-2). He and junior Ford Fischer tied for fourth in the 75-player field with 12 birdies apiece. Doyle played outstanding golf on the par 5s with a tournament-best-tying 4.44 (-5) average. He was also consistent on the par 4s with a 4.00 (E) average.

Fischer also had an impressive tournament, taking seventh place after carding a 74-68-72—214 (+1). Like Doyle, Fischer was at his best on the par 5s (4.56 (-4)) and par 4s (4.06 (+2)).

Yiu’s final round surge gave him a top-15 finish as the junior tied for 11th at 73-74-70—217 (+4). Yiu had a 4.06 (+2) average on the par 4s.
