Men's Golf Heads to North Carolina for Wolfpack Spring Open
NEW YORK – The Columbia men’s golf team will conclude its regular season schedule this weekend with a trip to North Carolina to compete in the Wolfpack Spring Open hosted by N.C. State.
Lonnie Poole Golf Course will serve as the host venue for the two-day, 36-hole event to be played Saturday, April 20 and Sunday April 21. Par at Lonnie Poole is set at 72 strokes on the 7,358-yard course.
The 2013 Wolfpack Spring Open will feature the following teams: Boston College, Canisius, Columbia, Drexel, No. 10 Duke, Francis Marion, George Mason, Loyola (Md.), N.C. State, St. John’s, Valparaiso and William & Mary. The host Wolfpack won last year’s event by four strokes over Lamar.
The Lions are coming off a strong performance last weekend at the Princeton Invitational. Columbia shot the best final round of any of the 14 teams in action to claim fourth place. First-year Harrison Shih (68) and senior Ford Fischer (70) each posted sub-par rounds, leading to top-10 finishes for both players. Brandon Jowers carded two par-71s through the first two rounds and ended the tournament tied for 12th.
Columbia will look to maintain its strong play of late as the Ivy League Championship awaits on the horizon. Following the Wolfpack Spring Open, the Lions will travel to Owings Mill, Md. to compete for the Ancient Eight title at the Caves Valley Golf Club from April 26-28.
