PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. -- Senior Clark Granum birdied three of the first four holes he played at the Trumph at Pauma Valley on Friday, and used an opening-round 68 to help vault him into a tie for second after day one of the tournament. The 11-team event is being played at the Pauma Valley Country Club on a par-71, 7,076-yard layout. As a team, Columbia sits in sixth place, six strokes behind Austin Peay.

The day didn't start out as Granum had planned as he bogeyed the first hole he played, the par-4 10th. The San Diego, Calif. native would bounce back quickly from the scorecard blemish, posting three straight birdies to get into red numbers at two-under par. A bogey at the 15th dropped the senior down to one-under at the turn.

On the front nine, Granum began with birdies on the 1st and the 4th holes, with a bogey coming at the par-3 3rd. Standing at two-under par with five holes remaining in his first round, Granum reeled off four straight pars before finishing with a birdie to take the individual lead after 18 holes.

Granum would move to four-under par on his 22nd hole of the day, but would record nine pars and five bogies the rest of the way to enter the final day of competition four strokes behind Steven Lecuyer of Central Arkansas.

Sophomore Michael Yiu was the next best finisher for the Lions, shooting 74 and 76 to tie for 21st after 36 holes.

A pair of Lions playing as individuals had impressive second rounds. Sophomore Stephen LaRouere shaved 11 strokes off his first-round score and finished with a two-over par 73, the best 18-hole score by a Columbia player outside of Granum's 68. Junior Sam Mysock was a stroke behind his teammate in the second round at 74, and is currently tied for 31st.

Central Arkansas leads the team portion of the tournament by 13 strokes over the host University of San Francisco.

The final day of the USF Triumph at Pauma Valley will take place on Tuesday, March 15.
