SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Columbia junior Michael Yiu was named to the 2012 Division I PING All-Northeast Region team, as announced Wednesday evening by the GCAA.

This marks Yiu’s second straight season as a Division I PING All-Region honoree. Over the last four seasons, Columbia has had five selections for the Division I PING All-Region team.

Yiu is coming off an outstanding junior campaign in which he posted a career-best 73.45 round average over nine events. He earned first team All-Ivy League honors, marking the second time in his three-year Columbia career he has received all-conference accolades.

Yiu posted three top-5 finishes on the season, including a second-place showing at the 2012 Ivy League Championship when he shot 8-over 221. He also notched a tie for fifth at the Cornell Invitational and a tie for fourth at The Classic at Shelter Harbor.

At the 91st Varsity C Celebration: Saluting Our Student-Athletes on May 1, Yiu received the William Terminello Award as Columbia’s top male golfer for the 2011-12 season.

The Columbia men’s golf team enjoyed a strong 2011-12 season, posting five top-5 team finishes and a 74-37-1 head-to-head record. The Lions placed third at the 2012 Ivy League Championship.
