NEW YORK – Head coach Rich Mueller has announced the Class of 2018 which features a pair of talented newcomers in Curtis Chan and Joshua Suh, who will join the Columbia men’s golf team in the fall of 2014.

Chan will arrive in Morningside Heights via Richmond, British Columbia with four years of experience as a high school golfer at Steveston-London Secondary School. The four-year team captain led SLSS to an eighth-place showing at the British Columbia High School AAA Championship in 2011, while placing fifth as an individual.

In junior tournament competition, Chan recorded a slew of top finishes. In 2009, he claimed top medalist honors at the U.S. Kids Golf World Championships and the British Columbia Bantam Boys Championships, while also tying for third at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships. The following year, Chan won the British Columbia Juvenile Boys Championship and earned fifth-place finishes at the Canadian Juvenile and CN Future Links Pacific Championships. The Western Canada Summer Games of 2011 featured an individual bronze medal for Chan, while Team BC earned the gold medal. In 2012, Chan won the individual gold at the BC Summer Games and finished fourth at the Junior Americas Cup as Team BC’s captain. This past year saw Chan finish second in the Juvenile division and eighth in Junior category of the Canadian Junior Boys Championship.

In the classroom, Chan received SLSS’s Academic Award all four years. He was honored with the Inspirational and Math Awards for the 2009-10 year. At the University of Waterloo Canadian Mathematics Competitions, Chan received the Certificate of Distinction Awards from 2010-12. In 2013, he was honored by his hometown with the UROC (Richmond Outstanding Community) Youth Award.

Although hailing from the Golden State, the ties to Canada continue as Columbia’s second recruit, Joshua calls La Canada, Calif. home. The four-year member and three-year letterwinner of the men’s golf team at La Canada High School, Suh served as team captain during his senior season. He is a three-time Rio Hondo League first team selection during his high school career.

Suh competed in the Toyota Tour Cup International at Westin Mission Hills, claiming fourth place with a score of 7-68-73—211. At the L.A. City Junior Golf Championships five-over with a three-round score of 68-66-73—207.
