Women's Golf In Second Place Following 1st Round of 6th Annual Roar-EE Invitational
SUFFERN, N.Y. -- With gorgeous weather at Spook Rock Golf Course on Friday, sophomores Jane Dong and Michelle Piyapattra each fired first-round 75s in the 6th Annual Roar-EE Invitational to lead the Columbia women’s golf team to a second-place standing heading into Saturday’s final round.
Columbia shot a 21-over 309 and trails only Harvard. The Crimson lead the 14-team field after carding an 18-over 306 on the par-72, 6,008-yard course. Seton Hall (24-over 312), St. John’s (25-over 315) and LIU (27-over 316) round out the top five teams. Fairleigh Dickinson’s Mariana Juaristi and St. John’s Harin Lee share the individual lead at 1-over 73.
Dong and Piyapattra are tied for fifth place at 3-over 75. Dong led the 75-player field with 16 pars on the day and tied for second place in par 3 scoring with a 3.00 (E) average. Piyapattra and senior Robin Lee led the Lions with two birdies each. Piyapattra had 12 pars was at her best on the par 5s tying for the best average at 4.75 (-1).
Lee is tied for 17th place after a strong first round. She had 10 pars and two birdies and also tied for second in par 3 scoring at 3.00 (E).
First-year Lisa Combs is tied for 26th and put together a solid first round at 9-over 81. Combs was at her best on the par 5s with a 5.25 (+1) average, which is tied for 14th. Senior Lynda Kwon rounded out the five-player team with an 18-over 90 and enters Saturday tied for 56th.
Saturday’s final round starts at 10 a.m. Henry will tee off with the first group at 10 a.m. Lu will start at 10:45 a.m. and Zambito tees off with the following group at 10:54 a.m. The Lions team tees of with the final wave, starting at 1 p.m.
