O'AHU, Hawai'i -- First-year Michelle Piyapattra tied for medalist honors at the Paradise Desert Classic, helping the Columbia women's golf team to a tie for third with the host University of Hawai'i at Manoa on Wednesday afternoon at the Luana Hills Golf Course.

Piyapattra tied with Arizona State's Giulia Molinaro, the 92nd-ranked golfer in the country and a first team All-Pac-10 honoree last season, for the top spot at three-over par 75.

Another Columbia first-year, Jane Dong, closed in a tie for 13th place at 87 on the difficult par-72, 5,987-yard layout. Dong tied with four other golfers in the best finish of her collegiate career.

Junior Robin Lee, who fired an impressive 39 on the back nine, closed in 19th place overall while classmate Lynda Kwon was one stroke behind Lee and tied for 20th. Sophomore Ashley Zambito rounded out the Lion competitors in 28th position.

Arizona State won the team championship by 21 strokes over Japanese school Osaka Gakuin.

The Lions will return to the mainland for their next tournament, the Hoya Invitational, on April 4-5.
