BEALLSVILLE, Md. -- On a blustery day in Maryland, junior Robin Lee put together her best performance of the season on the first day of the Hoya Women's Golf Invitational at The Members Club at Four Streams. Lee shot an opening-round 77, then improved by two strokes to record a 75 in the second round. The third and final round of the event was canceled due to rain, awarding Lee sole possession of third place individually.
As a team, the Lions finished in a tie for eighth place with Ivy League foe Harvard at 655. Defending champion Nova Southeastern won its second straight Hoya Invitational by four strokes over Yale at 623.
Lee had four birdies over her two rounds, which tied her for the second-highest total in the tournament with her teammate, first-year Michelle Piyapattra. The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native also tied for second in par-4 scoring average at 4.15 and tied for sixth with 21 pars.
Piyapattra was tied for fourth after a first-round 76, and closed in a tie for 17th at 160. First-year Jane Dong carded an opening-round 83 and for 59th while junior Lynda Kwon shaved a stroke off her first-round score over the second 18 holes and tied for 67th. Sophomore Ashley Zambito rounded out the Columbia competitors at 176.
Sandra Changkija of Nova SE earned medalist honors by three strokes over Harin Lee of St. John's.
The Columbia women's golf team returns to action on April 15-16 at the 5th Annual Roar-ee Invitational at Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y.
