SUFFERN, N.Y. -- First-year Michelle Piyapattra continued her tremendous opening season at Columbia, firing an first-round 74 to stand in a tie for third after the first day of the Fifth Annual Roar-EE Invitational at Spook Rock Golf Course on Saturday. Piyapattra shot an even-par 36 on the front nine, and is four strokes off the pace heading into the final round of competition.
As a team, the Lions are fifth in the 13-team field at 318. Fairleigh Dickinson leads the team portion of the tournament at 305.
Piyapattra was a model of consistency over her first 18 holes of the tournament, with a field-high 16 pars. The only blemishes on her round were a pair of double-bogeys on par-3 holes.
In addition to Piyapattra's round, junior Robin Lee is tied for 18th place at 80. Classmate Lynda Kwon stands one stroke behind Lee and is tied for 23rd, while first-year Jane Dong and sophomore Ashley Zambito carded 83.
Lehigh's Crystal Lee was the only player in the 69-player field to score in red numbers, as her two-under par 70 has her three strokes ahead of Michelle Lee of Penn.
The second and final day of the Roar-EE Invitational will take place on Saturday, April 16. The first teams will tee off beginning at 10:40 a.m.
