SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Playing in the first Roar-EE Invitational of her career, first-year Michelle Piyapattra battled through wicked weather conditions to take home medalist honors at the fifth annual event, hosted by the Columbia University women's golf team at Spook Rock Golf Course on Saturday. The victory marked the second straight season that a Lion has won the individual title, as Nancy Shon won the event last year.

Piyapattra entered the day four strokes off the lead, but was able to card 38 on the front nine, including a birdie on her final hole of competition before play was called due to torrential downpours and windy conditions.

As a team, the Lions tied with Ivy League foe Penn for the best second-day score, carding a 156 through the first nine holes. The tournament was shortened to 27 holes due to the unfriendly weather.

The victory is Piyapattra's second of the season, as she was victorious at the Paradise Desert Classic in Hawaii earlier this spring. The Corona, Calif. native won by two strokes over Siena's Katelynn Mannix.

Junior Robin Lee also recorded a top-10 finish, tying for seventh place at 118. Lee matched Piyapattra's front-nine score of 38 on day two, as did classmate Lynda Kwon. Kwon tied for 11th place a stroke behind her teammate at 119.

First-year Jane Dong closed out her tournament tied for 31st at 124, while sophomore Ashley Zambito carded a 130 and tied for 47th.

The Quakers and Fairleigh Dickinson tied for the team championship at 465. Penn overcame a four-stroke deficit on the final day of competition.

Columbia is back in action on April 22-24 at the Ivy League Championships. The three-day tournament will take place at Atlantic City Country Club in Atlantic City, N.J.
