AUSTIN, Texas -- Columbia sophomore standout Michelle Piyapattra sits in ninth place in the Challenge at Onion Creek following Monday's first two rounds at Onion Creek Club in Austin, Texas.
Piyapattra carded a 71-74-145 (+5) and sits six strokes of the leader, Texas Tech's Gabriella Dominguez (1-under 139).
She opened play this morning at 8 a.m. from the 16th tee in a group with McNeese State's Elin Andersson and Arkanas-Little Rock's Britny Brauburger and carded a 1-over 71 in the first round to enter afternoon play tied for seventh. She enjoyed birdies on holes 17, 3 and 5. In the second round, Piyapattra birdied the par-5 18th en route to a 4-over 74.
Piyapattra is second among the 10 players competing individuals in the tournament, trailing only Texas State's Valdis Jonsdottir (2-over 142).

Piyapattra is currently ranked as the no. 141 women's golfer in the nation by Golfweek.com. The Challenge at Onion Creek will be a good test for her as six teams in the top 60 are in the field.
Piyapattra is coming off a win in the Harvard Invitational on Oct. 16. She carded a 77-72--149 (+5) to earn the fourth title of her collegiate career. The victory also marked her third top-2 finish of the fall.
