AUSTIN, Texas -- Columbia sophomore Michelle Piyapattra was stellar on Tuesday, shooting a career-best 2-under 68 in the final round of the Challenge at Onion Creek to finish tied for second in the 75-player field.

Piyapattra finished with a 71-74-68--213 (+3), just one stroke back of tournament champ Gabriella Dominguez of Texas Tech. USTA's Fabiola Arriaga and Michigan's Linda Luo also shot 3-over 213 to tie for second.

"Definitely my putting helped me out a lot today. I think it was the biggest factor," Piyapattra said. "I gave away a couple of shots. I could have won if I had done well on certain holes. But it was a good round and it shows that I still have it."

Piyapattra, who entered the final round tied for ninth, began from the 16th tee and enjoyed birdies on holes 16, 17 and 18. She enjoyed three more birdies on the front nine (holes 2, 7 and 8). Piyapattra's final-round 68 was also the lowest individual round of the tournament.

"The purpose of taking Michelle down to play as an individual in this tournament was to give her chance to play better competition, compete and demonstrate that she is one of the best golfers in the nation," head coach Kari Williams said. "I think she did a great job this week and proved that."

Piyapattra enjoyed an impressive fall season and showed that she is one of the top women's golfers in the nation. She had four top-2 showings this fall, including a win in the Harvard Invitational on Oct. 16.
