Piyapattra Sits Tied For 4th After First 36 Holes Of Fresno State Lexus Classic
Piyapattra was tied for the lead following the first round when she shot 2-under 70. She followed that with a 5-over 77 in the second round to enter Tuesday’s final round at 3-over 147, five strokes back of the lead. San Jose State’s Madeleine Ziegert leads the 75-player field at 2- under 142.
Piyapattra’s par 5 scoring was 4.88 (-1) and tied four fourth in the field. Her 4.15 (+3) par 4 scoring tied for eighth. Piyapattra also tied for the third most birdies through the first two rounds with six.
The Lions’ team shot 312 in the first round and 311 in the second to come in for the day at 47-over 623.
Senior Lynda Kwon carded a pair of round in the 70s to rank second on the team, shooting 78-79—157 (+13). She is tied for 40th. Kwon played her best golf on the par 5s, tying for second in the field with a 4.75 (-2) scoring.
Senior Robin Lee sits tied for 49th after an impressive eight-stroke improvement in the second round for an 83-75—158 (+14). Lee also thrived on the par 5s with a 4.88 (-1) scoring that tied for fourth.
Sophomore Jane Dong enjoyed a onea-shot improvement in the second round and is tied for 59th at 81-80—161 (+17). First-year Lisa Combs managed a five-stroke improvement and she rounds out the Lions’ five-player team in 71st place at 86-81—167 (+23).
Joanna Henry, Ashley Zambito and Maria Lu competed as individuals. Henry saw a six-stroke improvement in the second round, shooting 87-81—168 (+24). Zambito lowered her score by five shots with a 91-86—177 (+33). Lu carded a 91-97—188 (+44).
The Lions team players will start Tuesday’s final round from the 10th tee paired with golfers from Montana and Boise State. The Columbia team starts teeing off at 8:56 a.m. (Pacific Time). Lu tees off from the 10 at 8:16 a.m. and Zambito and Henry are in a group that starts from No. 10 at 8:24.
