Women's Golf Posts Best Round of Season, Takes 2nd At Monterey Bay Invitational
Columbia enjoyed its best team round of the season in the final round of the tournament with a 12-over 300. The Lions improved with each round and with a 321-309-300—930 (+66), they finished just three strokes out of first place. Wichita State had the best team round of the entire tournament with an 11-over 299 to close things out at 63-over 927.
Dong fired a final-round 3-over 75 to cap her best showing on the year. She improved with each round to finish at 78-77-75—230 (+14) and earn her second top-10 showing of her Columbia career and first of the season.
Fellow sophomore Michelle Piyapattra had the team’s lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 2-over 74. She finished tied for 12th at 82-77-74—233 (+17) as she finished in the top 20 for the seventh time this season.
Senior co-captain Robin Lee had the Lions’ biggest improvement in the final round, lowering her score by four strokes with a 3-over 75 to finish tied for 16th at 81-79-75—235 (+19). Lee now has four top-20 showings on the season.
Senior co-captain Lynda Kwon matched her second-round, 4-over 76 on Tuesday to finish tied for 20th at 85-76-76—237 (+21). The top-20 finish was Kwon’s second of the year.
Rounding out the five-golfer team, first-year Lisa Combs posted her best finish as a Columbia Lion, tying for 25th at 80-82-79—241 (+25). Her final-round 7-over 79 tied for the best 18 holes of her collegiate career.
Competing as an individual, first-year Joanna Henry saw a five-shot improvement in the final round, carding an 87-88-83—258 (+42) to take 63rd place.
The Lions will next host the 6th Annual ROAR-EE Invitational April 13-14 at Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y.
