STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Columbia sophomore Michelle Piyapattra shot a 2-over 74 on Saturday at Penn State’s Blue Course to finish tied for 72nd place in the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf East Regional.
Piyapattra enjoyed her finest round of the tournament on Saturday and finished at 78-77-74—229 (+13). She stared the day from the 10th tee and carded a 2-over 38 on the back nine. She was solid on the front, shooting even-par 36, including a birdie on the par-5, 511-yard ninth hole to end her season in style.
Piyapattra concludes an amazing sophomore campaign in which she posted an Ivy League-best 74.73 round average over 10 events. She posted seven top-5 finishes and earned victories in the Harvard Invitational and the 6th Annual ROAR-EE Invitational. Piyapattra was also named Ivy League Player of the Year and she garnered first team All-Ivy League honors for the second consecutive season.
The eight teams advancing from the East Regional to the NCAA Championship are South Carolina, Texas A&M, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Arizona State, Michigan State and Duke. Oklahoma State’s Kelsey Vines secured one of the individual spots after finishing tied for seventh at 1-over 217. Arizona’s Margarita Ramos and Campbell’s Michelle Koh tied for 10th after both tied for 10th at 2-over 218. Ramos defeated Koh in a one-hole playoff to earn the second individual spot.
