NEW YORK - The Columbia women's golf program and head coach Kari Williams are pleased to announce that three newcomers will join the team next fall as the class of 2017. Jackie Chulya, Rachel Shi and Camilla Vik will join the Lions in the fall of 2013.

Jackie Chulya
Although she was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Chulya (full name: Arpasiree Jacqueline Chulya) hails from Bangkok, Thailand. Chulya has been a four-year member and two-time captain of the golf team at Shrewsbury International School.

The recipient of Shrewsbury's 2010 Most Improved Golfer Award, Chulya was recognized as an Elite Silver Athlete that year and has been an Elite Gold Athlete from 2011-13. In 2012, Chulya was honored with the golf team's Coach's Choice Award.

Chulya has also seen success in numerous amateur tournaments. Her top finish was a runner-up showing at the 2011 W. Duncan MacMillan Classic at the Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn. Chulya followed that tournament with a third-place finish at the McArthur Future Legends event in Hartland, Wisc. She also finished 16th in both 2011 and 2012 at the Thailand Ladies Amateur Open. Chulya's lowest amateur round of 69 came at the 2009 PING Phoenix Junior Qualifier at Moon Valley Country Club.

In 2010, Chulya earned the Shrewbury Speech Day Prize for Psychology and in 2011 garnered the Speech Day Prize for Physical Education. She was named a Shrewsbury Honorary Academic Scholar for the 2012-13 year. In 2012, Chulya was recognized with the Cambridge International Examinations High Achievement Award for Advanced Subsidiary Geography. Her sister Jessica is a junior on the UC-Davis golf team.

Rachel Shi
Born in Dalian, China, Shi will join Columbia via Point Grey Secondary in Vancouver, British Columbia. Shi has been a three-year member of Point Grey's golf and tennis teams, serving as the captain of each team. The Point Grey golf team finished fourth in the 2011 B.C. Provincial High School Golf Championship.

Shi has been competing in both Canadian and Chinese Amateur tournaments since 2008 when she won her first of two China Junior Amateur tournaments. In 2009, Shi posted a third-place finish at the China Junior Challenge Cup. Shi also placed third at the CJGA Mizuno National Championship in 2011 and then claimed the runner-up spot at the 2012 tournament.

Shi was also able to qualify for the Callaway Junior World Championships and Euro Junior Cup in 2012. A first-place showing at the B.C. Summer Games and a fourth-place finish at the CN Future Links Championship helped highlight the year.

A four-year member of the Principal's List at Point Grey, Shi earned the Greyhound Cumulative Award and finished in the top 25 at the Fermet math contest.

Camilla Vik
A Greenwich, Conn. native, Vik will join the Lions next season following a successful four-year career at the Greenwich Academy. After spending her freshman season as Greenwich's No. 3 player, Vik has been the team's top player since her sophomore year and is serving as the Gators team captain this season.

A three-time Fairchester Athletic Association All-League player, Vik claimed the conference's individual championship as a sophomore and junior. Greenwich has also captured FAA team titles in each of her first three seasons.

Vik was active on the amateur circuit over the last year, competing in seven events. Her top finish at those events was a victory at the IJGT Tournament of Champions last May.

Camilla is the fourth Vik to continue her golf career to her college of choice. Her father, Alexander, played for Harvard in 1974 and her sister, Caroline, also played for the Crimson from 2006-10. Her brother, Sebastian, played for Tufts from 2010-12.
