NEW YORK – The Columbia women’s golf team will host the 7th Annual Roar-EE Invitational Friday, April 12 at the Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y. The 36-hole event will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Spook Rock is in its fifth year hosting the Roar-EE Invitational. The Hampshire Country Club hosted the event its first two years. Spook Rock has played at par-72 each of the years it has hosted the event with the yardage coming in at just over 6,000.

Junior Michelle Piyapattra is the two-time defending individual champion of the event, winning it each of her first two years as a Lion. After winning the rain-shortened tournament in 2011, Piyapattra came back and won the 2012 event with a final round score of 69 to finish even. Columbia has won the last three Roar-EE Invitationals, as Nancy Shon won the 2010 tournament for the Lions.

Only one team in this year’s 10-school field, Penn, has won the Roar-EE Invitational previously. The Quakers shared the title in 2011 with Fairleigh Dickinson. An Ivy League school has won or shared the lead at the end of the tournament in each of the first six years of the event. Brigham Young won the 2008 tournament at the Hampshire CC as the only non-Ancient Eight victor.

Columbia, Dartmouth and Penn are the three Ivy League schools in the 2013 field. They will be joined by: Boston University, Central Connecticut State, Hofstra, LIU Brooklyn, Quinnipiac, Siena and Wagner.
