KANE’OHE, O’ahu – The Columbia women’s golf team completed the first two rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course in eighth-place. The final round of the tournament will be Wednesday beginning at 8 a.m. local time (2 p.m. EST).

The Lions were led by first-year Jackie Chulya on day one, posting a two-round score of 5-over, 149. Chulya bounced back from a 6-over first round to shoot the only score under par for Columbia with a 1-under 71 in second round to finish tied for 10th.

Senior Michelle Piyapattra recorded the best first round score for Columbia, standing in fifth place on the individual leaderboard with an even 72. Piyapattra will begin the final round tied for 16th after shooting a 6-over 78 the second time through the course.

Hawaiian native Monique Ishikawa played two consistent rounds and finished at 9-over on the day with rounds of 77 and 76. She is in a tie for 31st with 18 holes remaining. Lisa Combs, competing as an individual, shot identical scores to Ishikawa and is also tied for 31st.

Chuyla’s classmate, Camilla Vik shot a 2-over 74 to begin the day, but her second round score of 81 placed her in a tie for 45th. Another first-year, Rachel Shi, shot back-to-back 81’s to finish day one tied for 66th.

As a team, Columbia is just three strokes back of Washington State and Gonzaga who are tied for sixth.
