Alumna Piyapattra Qualifies for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships

QUALIFYING RESULTS

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – For the second time in the last four years, former Columbia women’s golf standout Michelle Piyapattra has qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships. Piyapattra also qualified for the event in 2011.

Piyapattra was one of eight players to qualify on July 7 at the Rolling Hills Estates Country Club in California. Her score of 71 was tied for third lowest and just two strokes shy of individual medalist Jennifer Peng.

The most decorated women’s golfer in Columbia history, Piyapattra reached the round of 32 at the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur. After making the field of 64 following the first two rounds of stroke play, Piyapattra knocked off USC’s Kristen Park in her opening round match.

A three-time All-Ivy League first team selection and the 2012 Player of the Year, Piyapattra will now prepare for a busy August. The 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur is slated to tee-off on August 4 and run through August 10 at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, New York. Following that tournament, she will head north of the border to compete in the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, a tournament she earned an exemption into after winning the Canadian Women’s Tour event at British Columbia in May.
