No. 29 Women's Tennis Sweeps Albany, 7-0
MIAMI - The Columbia women’s tennis team swept the University of Albany in Miami, Fla., on Friday, March 21, 7-0.
The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead taking the doubles point. Bianca Sanon and Kanika Vaidya won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-4. Tiana Takenaga and Ioana Alecsiu captured the other half of the doubles point with their 8-2 victory in the No. 3 match.
The momentum carried into the singles competition where four of the singles matches were won in straight sets. Sanon made quick work of the No. 1 match, taking down her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Crystal Leung took another singles point in decisive fashion in the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-2. Takenaga and Alecsiu also took their matches in straight sets.
Vivian Cheng came back after dropping her first set, 0-6, to take the second, 6-3. She won the tiebreaker, 10-5, to take the match and the singles point.
The Lions play one more match against FIU before returning home for the Ivy League season opener against Cornell at noon on Saturday, March 29 at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
