SKILLMAN, N.J. – Senior Nicole Bartnik and first-year Kanika Vaidya each added another accolade to their post-season awards, as Bartnik captured the ITA Northeast Senior of the Year Award and Vaidya received the ITA Northeast Rookie of the Year Award. The honors for each region were announced by the ITA Thursday, May 16.

Led by Bartnik, the 73rd-ranked player in the nation, the Lions earned a share of their first Ivy League championship in program history this season, going 6-1 in the conference. The Bradenton, Fla. native, provided an exemplary lead to follow, going 6-0 in the conference this season. Over the final two years of her career, Bartnik went 13-0 against Ancient Eight foes. In total, Bartnik went 17-10 in singles action this year, with wins over a pair of top-20 opponents en route to being named the Ivy League Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. In addition to her All-Ivy League first team selection in singles, Bartnik also received second team honors in doubles.

Bartnik was also selected as the Ivy League automatic qualifier into the 2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships, which are set to be held in Urbana, Ill. from May 22-27. 

In her first year in Morningside Heights, Vaidya compiled the most singles wins on the team, racking up 29 victories against just five losses. The Singapore native clinched wins in 6-of-7 Ivy League matches and went 13-2 during the dual season. For her singles play, she was selected to the All-Ivy League second team. Pairing with teammate Bianca Sanon, Vaidya garnered first team All-Ivy League honors after finishing as the 45th-ranked tandem in the nation. Sanon and Vaidya finished the season ranked 39th in the nation after going 9-1 as the Lions’ top doubles tandem. The duo went 4-1 in conference action and also knocked off three ranked opponents this spring.

Sanon and Vaidya will also represent the Ivy League at the 2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Doubles Championships after receiving the conference's automatic bid to the tournament. That event will run in conjunction with the singles championship from May 22-27 in Urbana, Ill.
