NEW YORK – The No. 56 Columbia women’s tennis team completed the weekend sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth Saturday, downing the Big Green with an impressive 7-0 victory at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. The Lions move to a perfect 3-0 in the Ivy League and 10-4 overall with the win.

Nicole Bartnik and Crystal Leung wasted little time giving the Lions an early advantage, racing away with an 8-0 victory in the No. 2 doubles match over Sarah Bessen and Melissa Matsouka. Tiana Takenaga and Ioana Alecsiu clinched the doubles point for Columbia, claiming an 8-3 victory over Julienne Keong Si Ying and Suzy Tan. The No. 1 match, featuring Columbia’s Bianca Sanon and Kanika Vaidya, was not finished, but the duo led 6-5 at the time the match was stopped.

The momentum just continued to grow in Columbia’s favor through singles, as the Lions posted dominating victories in a number of matches. No. 69 Nicole Bartnik put the Lions ahead, 2-0, closing out a spectacular 6-2, 6-1 victory with a well-placed cross-court forehand.

Katarina Kovacevic was the second off the courts for Columbia, cruising through a 6-0, 6-1 dismantling of Suzy Tan. First-year Vaidya followed suit just moments later with a clean slate, 6-0, 6-0, win in the No. 3 match over Matsuoka. Vaidya’s win clinched the team win for Columbia.

Alecsiu extended the Lions’ lead to 5-0, closing out Christina Danosi in the No. 6 match by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Sanon notched the Lions’ sixth point, toppling Akiko Okuda in the No. 2 match, 6-3, 6-2. Leung completed the 7-0 sweep of the Big Green, coming back from one-set down to Bessen, 1-6, 6-2, 10-5.

The Lions move to 3-0 in the Ivy League and will be atop the conference standing with road matches at Brown and No. 41 Yale next weekend.
