PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Kanika Vaidya captured the singles A flight title at the Cissie Leary Invitational in just her second collegiate tournament Sunday.

Vaidya began the day with a semifinals victory over Hanna Yu from Yale, 6-0, 6-2. That win earned her a spot in the top-draw finals against another New Haven opponent in Annie Sullivan.

The finals match was played well from both sides of the net, but it would be Columbia's Vaidya that secured the 6-3, 6-4 win.

In doubles action, Bianca Sanon and Tiana Takenaga reached the semifinals, but fell to Yale's Yu and Amber Li, 8-6.

Next up for Columbia is the ITA All-America tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calf. Sanon will be on the court in the pre-qualifying singles draw, as well as the doubles pre-qualifying event with Takenanga. Senior Nicole Bartnik will be in action in the main singles draw.
