NEW YORK - The No. 46 Columbia women's tennis team won its third consecutive match by a 6-1 score Saturday, taking down the visiting Stony Brook Seawolves at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. The Lions won the doubles point and five of the singles matches in the victory.

Senior Nicole Bartnik and sophomore Crystal Leung got things started for Columbia, racing away with an 8-1 win in the No. 3 doubles match over Nini Lagvilana and Cassandra Dix. Columbia's top doubles tandem, the 29th-ranked team of Bianca Sanon and Kanika Vaidya secured the doubles point for the Lions with an 8-3 downing of Polina Movchan and Jackie Altonsarna. In the No. 2 match, Katarina Kovacevic and Tiana Takenaga were leading 6-2 when the match was stopped.

Takenaga used the momentum from her unfinished match to dominate her singles contest. Playing across from Louise Badoche, the Columbia junior posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory to give Columbia a 2-0 advantage. First-year Vaidya similarly recorded a 6-0 blanking in the opening set of the No. 3 match before taking out Altonsarna with a 6-3 second set.

Leung locked up the win for Columbia with a straight-set victory in the No. 4 match. Becky Shtilkind challenged Leung in the first set, but succumbed by a score of 6-4 and then went down in the second set, 6-1. Sanon added a fifth point to the Lions' tally with a 6-4, 6-3 showing in the No. 2 match over Movchan.

Stony Brook notched its lone point in the top singles match, with Lagvilava winning a tough three-set match. Kovacevic put the final touches on the 6-1 win for Columbia with a victory in the No. 6 singles match. After splitting the first two sets with Dix, Kovacevic registered a 10-3 win in the tiebreaker.

Columbia will return to the Dick Savitt Tennis Center next Friday, March 8, when it hosts Fordham at 3 p.m.
