2014 Fall Slate Announced for Women's Tennis
Complete 2014 Fall Schedule
NEW YORK – Following the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament last spring, the Columbia women’s tennis team looks ahead to its fall slate that features five events over eight weeks head coach Ilene Weintraub announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions get their fall underway Sept. 19-20 with a trip to Kansas City, Missouri, for the Mizzou Tennis Invite at The Plaza Tennis Center. Over the three-day event, Columbia will take on opponents from Mississippi State, Nebraska, and the hosts Missouri.
The following weekend select Columbia players will head to Pacific Palisades, California, for the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships. As the championships wrap-up Oct. 5, the Lions will send split squads to its next two tournaments – the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey, and the Billie Jean King Invitational in Flushing Meadows, New York. Both events are scheduled for Oct. 3-5.
Looming next is the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, scheduled for Oct. 17-21 in New Haven, Connecticut. In 2013, Columbia swept both the singles and doubles titles at the regional event. In its dominating performance, the Lions advanced an all-Columbia final round on both the singles and doubles courts.
Pending the Lions’ regional results, Columbia’s fall campaign may continue onto the final event of the season, the ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 6-9 in Flushing, New York.
