NEW YORK - On a warm Friday morning, more than 725 Columbia University students, faculty and staff participated in President Lee C. Bollinger's 11th Annual Fun Run. Runners started on College Walk and ran west toward Riverside Park, south to 96th Street and back up through the park in a 5K run and walk.

"It's one of my favorite days of the year," said Ken Torrey, Associate Athletics Director for Physical Education. "The greatest contribution comes from our track and field and cross country teams that line the course and cheer on everybody."

A number of Columbia's athletics teams ran in the race, including the men's swimming and diving team, lightweight rowing team, women's tennis team and women's golf team.

With support from the Office of the President, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education, Public Safety, Dining Services, University Facilities and many others, the Fun Run serves as the unofficial kickoff to the year, according to Torrey.
