SAAC Sets New Record with Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
NEW YORK - Amidst the holiday season, the Columbia University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took time to help those in need by initiating the annual SAAC Thanksgiving Basket Project.
SAAC organized and actively participated in a food drive to assist families in the community for Thanksgiving. Each varsity sports program purchased and assembled baskets in order to spread the joy of Thanksgiving to economically disadvantaged families.
This year, SAAC delivered an all-time record of 33 baskets and $610 in turkey vouchers to the POTS organization in Bronx, N.Y.
Baskets were filled to the brim with traditional
Thanksgiving goodies including apple cider, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and
sweet potatoes.
"We are pleased to have set the bar even higher for our annual SAAC
Thanksgiving Basket Project," said John Barrett, associate athletics director
for intercollegiate sports programs at Columbia University. "The generosity of Columbia
student-athletes can be seen through their commitment to ensuring that those in
the surrounding area have something to be thankful for."
