NEW YORK – The Columbia Athletics' 93rd Annual Varsity C Celebration saw student-athletes receive numerous awards and accolades, including the Marion R. Philips Watch, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Watch and the Karen Blank Award.

The Philips and Eisenhower watches are the two highest academic awards given in the athletics program. The watch awards are presented to Columbia Athletics senior student-athletes earning the highest cumulative grade-point averages and at least two varsity letters. Danielle Cosentino (field hockey) earned the Marion R. Philips Watch and Michael Attal (men’s soccer) earned the Dwight D. Eisenhower watch.

Cosentino holds a 3.92 GPA and will graduate with a degree in Economics. She was a key member of the midfield for the Lions and was named to the NFHCA Division I Collegiate National Academic Squad all four years.

Attal, a 4.05 student double majoring in Mathematics-Statistics and Financial Economics, played goalkeeper for Columbia for four years. In November, Attal was selected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

The Karen Blank Award, in its second year, recognizes a senior female student-athlete enrolled in Barnard College, who exemplifies the qualities of academic success, athletic achievement, strong sporting behavior and commitment to community. Women’s basketball senior Taylor Ward became the second recipient of the award.

Ward started 27 games for Columbia at guard, averaging 9.0 points and 3.0 assists per game. Off the court, the Oregon City, Ore., native participated in the WBCA’s “So You Want to be a Coach” program, which assists female collegiate basketball players interested in coaching.
