George Van Amson, Ari Brose Honored as Varsity C Alumni Award Winners

NEW YORK - At the 92nd Annual Varsity C Celebration, the Athletics Alumni Awards were presented to two ardent Columbia alumni - George Van Amson '74CC (football/baseball) and Ari Brose '84BC (cross country/track & field).

Van Amson is one of the most influential Columbians in history after fashioning a successful 21-year careeer as an executive at Morgan Stanley. He served a 12-year term as the 96th Alumni Trustee from 1996-2008 and continues to provide leadership as the chair of the Columbia Alumni Association. During his time at Morningside Heights, Van Amson was elected class president in his freshman and sophomore years and made his mark in athletics on both the baseball and football teams.

Brose was a true pioneer in women's athletics at Columbia. A talented distance runner, she was a member of the Barnard cross country and track and field squads and was named captain of first-ever women's cross country and track and field teams to compete as Columbia Lions after the establishment o f the Columbia-Barnard Athletic Consortium. Brose is a member of the Columbia Athletics Women's Leadership Council and was named one of the 25 most influential alumnae in the history of the Columbia-Barnard Athletic Consortium.
