NEW YORK - If you thought you saw Roar-ee the Lion on Friday, September 13, your eyes were not deceiving you!  Roar-ee toured a number of social media and sports league offices in New York City to spread the word to #TURNITBLUE at our home football contests this season.

Roar-ee, 2013 Columbia Football captain Marcorus Garrett, senior offensive lineman Jimmy Yukevich and first-year wide receiver Cameron Dunn handed out pizza, t-shirts, bumper stickers, schedule magnets and posters to some of our favorite internet companies.

The tour started at Peek Analytics (@peekanalytics), a fantastic Twitter audience measurement/analytics company led by a Columbia Football season tickets holder Mike Hussey! (

Then Roar-ee and friends trotted the two and half avenues to Zog Sports (@zogsports) home of New York’s social sports leagues for young professionals (  Zog Sports had lots of ties to Columbia, including another frequent ticket purchaser, founder and CEO Rob Herzog!

The fun didn’t stop there.  The Columbia contingent went to the Bitly offices (@bitly)! Bitly is a URL shortening and bookmarking service. Bitly is the largest link-sharing platform on the web, with over 8 billion clicks on Bitly links each month, and 80 million new links created every day! (

Roar-ee finished the day at Amicus (@amicushq), a company that helps not-for-profit organizations connect with more donors.  ( The Amicus headquarters were just blocks away from the famous San Gennaro festival in Little Italy, so Roar-ee stopped to see a few young fans and a couple of members of New York’s Bravest – New York Fire Department.

Roar-ee plans to do another NYC tour in October.  If you are interested in having Roar-ee visit your company offices, contact Daniel Spiegel, Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Marketing, at

Help us spread the word that this year Columbia Athletics will #TURNITBLUE at all of our home contests.
