Barry Neuberger was named Columbia’s first Associate Athletics Director for Sports Marketing in August 2005.
His responsibilities include the implementation of Columbia's first-ever sports marketing program, which includes local and corporate sponsorships, professional radio/internet broadcasts and webcasts, event promotions, ticket plans and other fan development activities.
Neuberger has spent nearly thirty years in college sports marketing, with significant experience in athletics administration at numerous NCAA institutions. Before his arrival at Columbia, he also held two sports marketing positions in the private sector. As Vice President of Sales for Worldwide Marketing & Media Group, he secured sponsorship and clearances for live events and television programs, including the creation of Inside The Big East, a weekly magazine-style television show that aired in most major markets from coast to coast.
As Director of Midwest Sales for Action Sports Media from 2001 to 2004, he created and implemented venue marketing packages for numerous college athletics programs. His roster of corporate partners included many Fortune 500 organizations, including Ford Motor Company, State Farm Insurance and Dodge (DaimlerChrysler).
As an assistant athletics director at Michigan’s Oakland University from 1997 to 2001, Neuberger launched the nation’s first internet-exclusive broadcast package of men and women’s basketball games. He has also been responsible for the planning and execution of “midnight madness” events, season ticket campaigns, sports information and athletics development over the course of his 27-year career in college sports.
Neuberger is no stranger to the New York college sports scene. Born in Brooklyn, he attended Pace University, graduating with a bachelor of business administration. He began his career in college athletics following his 1978 graduation as Pace’s first full-time director of sports information.
After six years there, he spent nine years as assistant athletics director at New York University, where he was responsible for the development, marketing and sports information for the Violets’ Division III program.
He resides on Morningside Heights, with his wife Darlene A. Aschbacher, an accomplished artist.
