A Brooklyn, N.Y. native, Dr. Ajaya Williams joined the Columbia University athletic training staff in August 2006. She is currently the head men's basketball athletic trainer for the sports medicine department and oversees sports medicine coverage for the men’s and women’s golf and women’s archery teams. Dr. Williams came to Columbia University after completing a two-year stint as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Florida State University. At Florida State, Dr. Williams earned her master’s degree in sports management while working with both Seminole tennis programs. In 2008, Dr. Williams was afforded the opportunity to work with the Buffalo Bills Football Club, assisting as a sports medicine summer intern.
She recently earned her doctoral degree in May 2016 in health education from the Columbia University Teachers College. Her research focused on concussion education and protocol compliance in the secondary school sector.
Furthermore, Dr. Williams volunteers her time in her community with various sports organizations, providing sports medicine coverage for local sports leagues as well as speaking on preventative healthcare to professional sports organizations.
She has been a NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) since 2004 and a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) since 2008.
