Dr. Gloria Cohen is in her 12th year with the Columbia athletic program. She is a lecturer in the Department of Orthopedics at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.
A native Canadian, Cohen has amassed a great deal of experience in sports medicine and family practice since earning her M.D. from the University of Ottawa (Canada) in 1980. She earned both her undergraduate degree and a B.Sc. in physical therapy from McGill University in Montreal. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the Canadian Academy for Sports Medicine.
Cohen has worked in professional athletics with cyclists and as a team physician for the Triple-A baseball affiliates of the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. She has also worked with the junior hockey team affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Cohen was a recipient of the YWCA Women of Distinction Award in the category of Recreation, Fitness and Sport. She recently was named a "Top Doctor" in Family Medicine/Primary Care Sports Medicine by Consumers' Research of America.

Cohen also was a member of the medical team for the Canadian Olympic Team in five Olympic Games – 1988 (Seoul), 1996 (Atlanta), 2000 (Sydney), 2008 (Beijing) and 2010 (Vancouver).

She lives in Scarsdale, N.Y. with her husband and is the mother of two adult children, a daughter and a son.
