Archery Wins Adam Wheatcroft Memorial To Start Outdoor Season

Harrisonburg, Va. – Over the weekend, the Columbia archery team kicked-off its outdoor season at the 2014 Adam Wheatcroft Memorial hosted by James Madison University on Friday, April 4 – Sunday, April 5. As a team, the Lions took home the gold in both the women’s recurve and compound, to go along with a number of top individual performances.

In the women’s compound qualifier, Judy Zhou tallied a first-place score of 643 points to lead Columbia. The Lions posted four archers in the top-10, including Julie Hoffman (5th -608), Mary Quien (6th – 608) and Marilyn He (7th – 586). Victoria Lai shot a 531 for 11th-place overall to round out the Columbia finishers. Zhou went on to grab the gold to lead the compund group.

The Lions dominated in the women’s recurve sweeping the field in the qualifying round with all top-five finishers. Sarah Bernstein led the pack with a top score of 526, followed by Grace Kim as runner-up at 519 and Tiffany Kim in third-place at 517. Allysa Posecion placed fourth behind 495 points and Joy Chang finished in fifth-place at 475. In the elimination match, Tiffany Kim went on to win the gold, followed by Posecion with the silver and Grace Kim with the bronze.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday, April 18 – Sunday, April 20 as they travel to New Britain, Conn. to compete in the USCA ERIAC.
