NEW YORK – The Columbia archery team headed to Queens to take part in the New York State Indoor Championships, Saturday, February 18, and the competition saw seven season bests and two personal bests for the Lions.
Two seniors led the way for Columbia, as Sydney Shaefer won the Collegiate Compound Unlimited with a season-best 560, while senior Anna Harrington won the Olympic recurve division with a season-best score of 545. Shaefer just barely edged out teammate Mary Quien, who fired a 550, while first-year Gladys Velez-Caicedo shot 532, a career best in only her third collegiate meet.
In recurve, first-year Sarah Bernstein also shot a season high, finishing second with a score of 533. First-year Grace Kim rounded out the top three with a person-best of 529, while Sarah Chai (511) and Miryung Yang (499 – a season best) finished off the top five. Also competing for Columbia were Sara Lavenhar (478), Aaqilah Chambers (453), Marilyn He (431) and Kate Cwynar, who shot a season-best 422.
Up next for the Lions is the Pennsylvania State Championships, Saturday, March 3 in Reading, Pa.
