Archery Sweeps Top Recurve Spots at Nanook of the North

NEW YORK – The Columbia archery team fared well in the second outdoor tournament of the season in Manchester, Conn., April 14 and 15, as the Lions recurve team took four of the top five individual spots, and a split squad took first and second in the team competition, while the compound team won their competition and had two athletes in the top four spots. 

Seniors Anna Harrington and Sarah Chai proved to be a deadly 1-2 punch for the Lions, as Harrington led the individual scores with a 535, while Chai won the individual bracket, beating Harrington in the gold medal match and finishing with a score of 531. First-year Sarah Bernstein came in third with a score of 520 points, while Grace Kim rounded out the top four with a score of 470. Also faring well for the Lions were sophomore Sara Lavenhar (452), senior Kate Cwynar (389), sophomore Marilyn He (388) and senior Aaqilah Chambers (334).

In compound,  sophomore Mary Quien was the top finisher for the Lions, with a score of 628, while senior Sydney Shaefer came in fourth overall, with a score of 578. The team was rounded out by first-year Gladys Velez-Caicedo, who shot a 501 to help the Lions win the team gold medal over the University of Connecticut. 

Archery is back in action April 21-22, as the Easter Regional Intercollegiate Archery Championships will get underway in Williamsport, Pa.
