Archery Wins Gold At ERIAC
New Britain, Conn. -The final tally is in for the Columbia archery team who competed at the 2013 Eastern Regional Intercollegiate Archery Championships on Friday, April 18- Sunday, April 20. The Lions owned the recurve division and put together some strong showings in the compound division as well.
Tiffany Kim capped a stellar weekend with a gold medal in the individual recurve to lead the Lions. The sophomore defeated Alexis Drake of MIT in the elimination round to come away with the first-place finish. Teammates Grace Kim and Joy Chang battled it out for third place in the elimination round. Kim prevailed in the end to grab the bronze. Columbia also took home the gold in the recurve team rounds for the third consecutive season, beating James Madison.
In the compound division, Judy Zhou led the way with a bronze finish in the elimination round defeating James Madison’s Sarah Clemmer. Zhou went on to join the compound squad of Mary Quien and Julie Hoffman en route to a second-place team finish.
The program also earned a silver medal in the mixed team rounds as Grace Kim joined Sean Choi of the archery club for a second-place finish.
In addition to a solid regular season finale performance, Columbia archers made up the five spots of the recurve 2014 All-East Team. Grace Kim led the way with 2092 points, followed by Tiffany Kim with 2086 points, Joy Chang with 2016, Alyssa Posecion 2009 with and Sarah Bernstein with 1902.
Zhou earned the top spot in the compound 2014 All-East Team with 2393 points. She was joined by Hoffman in the fifth spot with a tally of 2313 points.
The All-East team is decided by an archer's combined scores from three of the four major tournaments throughout the season: US Indoor National East Regional, New England Collegiate Archery Tournament, Adam Wheatcroft Invitational, and the Eastern Regional Intercollegiate Archery Championships (ERIAC).Up next, Columbia will join Princeton as co-host of the 2014 Ivy Invitational at Brookdale Park Archery Field in Bloomfield, NJ on Saturday, April 26.
