RICHMOND, Va. – The Columbia fencing team dominated at the 2013 USA Fencing Division I National Championships, bringing home two gold, two silver, two bronze medals and a total of eight finalists.

In all, 17 Lions placed among the top-32 finishers.

"Columbia fencers are not only some of the top fencers in college, but have proved themselves as top fencers in the United States," stated Columbia fencing head coach Michael Aufrichtig.

2012 London Olympian and Columbia sophomore Nzingha Prescod stole the show as she fenced her way to become the 2013 Foil National Champion with a gold medal performance. Placing just behind her with a silver medal in women’s foil was fellow 2012 Olympian and recent Columbia graduate, Nicole Ross.

In the men’s sabre competition, sophomore Will Spear finished third to win the bronze, while Alen Hadzic earned a bronze medal in the epee category.
