For Starters
After strong showings in the North America Cup in Cleveland earlier in November and the Junior World Cup in Bratislava, Columbia Fencing will start the collegiate season with the Columbia Invitational in the University Gym (Blue Gym) on Friday, November 22.  The schedule is as follows:

5:00 p.m. – Men vs. Stevens

6:15 p.m. – Men vs. Princeton, Women vs. Princeton

7:30 p.m. – Men vs. NJIT, Women vs. NJIT

Coach Aufrichtig’s Scouting Report

Stevens
“Stevens, a much-improved team over the last year, does not boast the depth and experience that we have, but they are a much more talented team than they have been in the past.  It will be a great opening match.”

Princeton
“Princeton was the National Champion last year.  Their women’s team won the Ivy League, and their men’s team tied with us for second.   We are deeper at each weapon as a team on the men’s team, than we are on the women’s side but I still expect both matches to be extraordinarily competitive.”

NJIT
“NJIT always has a strong fencer in their line up, but as whole team we are deeper at each weapon on both sides.”

Columbia Men
“The key word is balance.  Our men’s team is extremely balanced in all three weapons.  Epee and Sabre are a little deeper than Foil right now, but Foil is still extremely strong from top to bottom.”

Columbia Women
“The women’s team is young and talented.  Foil is our strongest weapon, and the most experienced. Saber and Epee are two very young teams, but they will be very competitive.”

Interesting Matchups and Story Lines
Men’s Foil – Michael Dudey vs. Harry Bergman – rematch of the 2013 National Championship bout.

Men’s Epee – Alex House vs. Brian Ro – Familiar opponents as House was on the Junior World Team and Ro was on the Cadet World Team

Women’s Epee – Diana Tsinis vs. Audrey Abend – Both from New York, good friends, but always having to fence each other. They even have the same BIRTHDAY!

The World Is Ours
Friday will feature some of the country’s best fencing.  There will be too many world team members and junior world team members to count! Both Columbia and Princeton have two World Team members, in addition to a number of Junior World Team members.

Home Sweet Home
The last two home meets Columbia held were each attended by more than 300 fans.  Our student-athletes LOVE competing in front of their family, friends and fans.  Come out and support the team
