NEW YORK – Like many other winter college sports, Columbia is beginning postseason play. On Sunday, March 13, a group of Lions will travel upstate to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to square off against a number of local powerhouses at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
In its last time out, Columbia captured gold and silver medals at the first United States Collegiate Weapon Squad Championships at NYU. Columbia's women's epee team, led by Lydia Kopecky, Neely Brandfield-Harvey, Gaby Strass and Katya English, took home first place while the women's sabre squad gained second place, spearheaded by fine performance from Sammy Roberts, Essane Diedro and Loweye Diedro.
The Lions are looking to qualify as many individuals as possible for the NCAA Championships, which begins March 24 on the campus of the Ohio State University. Columbia will have 14 entries at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
