Nzingha Prescod Takes Home Gold Medal at Junior World Championships

JORDAN – The United States Women’s Foil Team of Nzingha Prescod, Lee Kiefer, and Margaret Lu swept the medals in the Junior Women’s Foil World Championships head at the Dead Sea resort in Jordan on Friday.

Prescod earned the gold medal, Lee Kiefer the silver and Margaret Lu the bronze.  France also appeared on the medal stand as Ysora Thibus tied for 3rd.

The three U.S. fencers entered in the event came out of the preliminary rounds seeded first, second and fourth.  They rode those seeds out through the direct elimination phase of the tournament until they faced each other.

Prescod won all six of her preliminary bouts, only giving up nine touches in the pools.  The only fencer who could beat the Americans was Prescod, the eventual champion.

In the semifinals, Prescod defeated Lu 15-8 and then Kiefer knocked out Ysora Thibus, 15-8.  Prescod won the final against Kiefer by a score of 15-11.
