NEW YORK - After earning seven qualifying bids at the 2012 NCAA Northeast Regionals last weekend, Columbia gained one more at-large bid to the NCAA Championships to send a total of eight fencers to Ohio State on March 22.

Michael Josephs earned Columbia's lone at-large bid to join the Columbia contingent, which includes Will Spear (men's sabre), Alen Hadzic (men's epee), Lydia Kopecky and Diana Tsinis (women's epee), D'Meca Homer (women's foil) and Essane Diedro and Sammy Roberts (women's sabre).

Roberts suffered an injury at the regional competition last Sunday and if she is unable to fence, junior Loweye Diedro, who also qualified in women's sabre, will fence in her place at the NCAA Championships.

Although four Columbia fencers qualified in women's epee and three qualified in women's sabre, Columbia is allowed to send only two fencers per weapon, due to NCAA regulations.

The 2012 NCAA Championships will take place from March 22-25 on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
