COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After back-to-back bronze medal finishes at the World Championships in 2011 and 2012, the U.S. Women’s Saber Team won gold at a World Cup for the first time since 2010 on Sunday.

Columbia assistant fencing coach and former Lion national champion Daria Schneider helped team USA to the victory alongside two-time Olympic Champion Mariel Zagunis, Dagmara Wozniak and Francesca Russo. 

Seeded third in the event, Team USA defeated France, 45-28, in the quarterfinals and won their bout over the Ukrainians, 45-33 in the semifinals.

Team USA defeated the top seeded Russians, 45-30 in the final bout to win gold.

Women's sabre will not be contested as a team event at this year's 2012 Olympics. Team events will be held in men's sabre, men's epee, women's foil, women's epee.

Columbia's James Williams '07, Jeff Spear '10 (men's sabre), Nicole Ross '12 and Nzingha Prescod '15 (women's foil) each will represent the United States in London later this summer.
